Difficult Conversations and Divided Communities: Meeting the Challenges of Our Time with a Contemplative Heart presented by Carl McColman. It’ s no secret that we live in a culture where many people experience deep divisions and social disconnection, even from their own neighbors and family members. Conflict and division is nothing new, and a practice as old as silent prayer offers us some beautiful and surprising resources for responding to the challenges of our time. We will consider the wisdom that comes to us from the monastic tradition, from the great mystics and contemplatives, and from the wisdom of Thomas Keating and the Centering Prayer community, to reflect together on how the divisions of our time can be seen as invitations into the deep healing that comes from the Spirit within.
December 14, 2024, in person, all day, details below
Welcoming the Light in Times of Darkness, an in-person day of prayer from 9am to 3:30 pm at The Center at Mariandale, presented by Sr. Peggy Murphy, OP. The days grow shorter, and darkness can seem to overcome light while our world remains mired in wars, factional disagreements, natural disasters, and injustice. But Light prevails!
Join us during Advent for a day of prayer and reflection. Sr. Peggy, through storytelling, will introduce us to many individuals from a variety of faith traditions, who sought the Light in times of extreme Darkness. These people model for us virtues such as fortitude, courage, openness and trust, the same virtues we need so that we can bring Light into our own lives and the world.
You are welcome to arrive at 8:30am for coffee and fellowship before the program begins at 9am.
The day will include presentation, and two twenty-five minute sessions of Centering Prayer and reflection.
Details and registration here. This program will be recorded so that those who cannot attend in person can watch after the event.
